Computers are the way of the world. But there is nothing more annoying than a broken PC. PC’s breakdown from time to time, it happens. This is a guide to repair a desktop computer that won’t start up.

Steps
1. First of all you have to determine the cause. Constantly restart the PC in order to confirm that it won’t boot. Next you should try the PC on it’s side to eliminate a connection error. This could either be a burnt out or worn contact or simply a connection which has come loose. After this you can start the process of fixing the problem
2. There are a couple of problems that will cause a computer not to boot these are: Corrupted BIOS, Corrupted Start up files, corrupted hard drive (containing startup files) or a broken motherboard.
3. If absolutely nothing happens when you press the power switch:
- Check that it is plugged in and switched on both at the wall and at the back of the base unit, check that the wall socket has power.
- Check the power supply by removing it and testing it in another machine, if it works fine in another machine, check your power switch connections.
- Check the fuse in the power supply; typically if it is blown, is is blackened, or the little thread inside is interrrupted, when held against a light.
- If the connections are fine it is likely that your motherboard has died.
4. Check for a faulty motherboard.
- Remove every connection and component from your motherboard except for the power, front panel, CPU assembly, RAM and graphics card, switch it on.
- If you have more than one stick of RAM test them one at a time.
- If this works then reconnect your other devices (Switch it off first!) one by one until you find out which one is causing the problem.
- If your hear sounds of the disk starting, but nothing ever happens on the screen, the BIOS might be corrupted. That can happen when you try to flash it with a newer version, or if an ugly virus flashes it with garbage. If so, the BIOS needs to be reloaded correctly, or the chip replaced. Note: Not all computers have their BIOS in a flashable EPROM, so this might or might not apply.
- If the board makes a sequence of loud beeps, there is a hardware error in one of the basic components. Two beeps mean ‘no monitor found’, four beeps ‘no memory found’, etc. (that list is not for sure). It is the BIOS reporting that it misses an elementary part to continue. Find out which part is broken (or really missing), and replace it.
5. Replace the Boot Sector.
- Place windows installer disc into drive.
- When prompted, press R to start the recovery console.
- When asked which system you want to log into press 1, then enter.
- You should now have a C:\WINDOWS\ prompt, type fixboot and press enter.
- Type FIXMBR and press enter (that means ‘FIX the Master Boot Record’ = FIXMBR).
- Reboot the machine, if it works, you are done.
6. Check your BIOS settings
- To enter the BIOS menu you must tap a certain key as soon as you switch on the PC, this is usually DEL or F2 but it will say on screen, e.g. ‘PRESS DEL FOR SETUP’
- All BIOS menus differ, what you are looking for is a bit called Primary Master, which should have somenumbers after it, if it does, then your drive is not at fault, move on.
- If Primary Master has no information after it your hard drive is not being detected, if you are able, change the setting next to Primary Master so that it says ‘Auto’.
- Save and exit the BIOS, if your computer boots, stop here.
- If your hard drive is not detected this time you will need to open up the case and check the connections. http://www.wikihow.com/Hook-up-a-Hard-Drive
7. Check for a faulty hard drive
- Remove your hard drive and put it in another PC if possible.
- If it does not work in another PC then it is dead, buy a new one.
- If it does work in another PC, try using different cables.
- If different cables make no difference your motherboard may be faulty.

Tips
• Make sure to buy your components from a reputable dealer, check reviews online and in literature.
• I you have to take the cover off you might as well clean it up a bit, blast all the dust out with a can of compressed air.
• If the PC has stopped working after a recent update (RAM, Hard drive..) remove this and see the problem still exists.
• Remember that Windows XP can only take a maximum of 4 GB of RAM
• If your PC problem is BIOS related, it should boot when the BIOS disc is inserted
• Always turn off and unplug the PC before touching, adding or removing parts within the pc
• Wear an anti-static wrist band or ground yourself by touching the case while the system is plugged in.
• Make sure you do not have excess moisture on your hands, if you get sweaty palms then wear anti-static gloves, e.g. nitrile gloves
• As with any device that plugs into wall current, if during testing you smell ozone or burnt plastic, or hear a “popping” or arcing noise, unplug the device immediatly. Unless you know how to work with electicity safely, an internal short is best repaired by professionals.

Prediction is expressed by McAfee Labs. In addition to social networking sites, users Adobe Flash System and any risk of becoming a hacker target.

Director of Security Research and Communication McAfee Labs David Marcus says, the perpetrators of crime is likely to attack to Facebook and Twitter and other social networking services.

Not only Koobface viruses, virus attacks through Facebook applications will increase.

“When you click ‘yes’ to access an application, you provide access to applications that are clickable to see all the data your Facebook account,” Marcus said as quoted by CNet, Wednesday (30/12/2009).

Meanwhile, vulnerability against hackers Twitter more often caused by services such as peringkas bit.ly URL and tinyurl.com.

“There is nothing wrong with the Twitter service. But when you click a URL peringkas, you do not know what the target site until you actually had kliknya. Even today, there is no peringkas The URL to provide security for the targeted sites,” Marcus said.

Not only social networking site, Operating System (OS) Google Chrome will create new land for the creators of the virus to infect computer users. Thus, most likely Google Chrome will accompany the Microsoft OS that has been vulnerable to attack claimed. McAfee Labs also reminded that the appearance of a Trojan virus is more intelligent and dangerous

No doubt, the virus-Maxtrox that Windx previously entered into the top ten but got the last order, this time he immediately raced to the first order. The rest, still occurs chase between each of the virus. Only one new virus that is Fdshield, who entered ranked this time, the rest is a virus variant or old. Here is a list of more:

1. Windx-Maxtrox

Viruses are created with Visual Basic has the original size of about 77Kb, without in-pack. Viruses that allegedly came from the area of North Sulawesi has an executable file infection capabilities. Rather, it will infect existing programs in the Program Files directory. Infection techniques he applied smart enough to avoid detection by antivirus heuristic engine. Characteristics that can be recognized on infected computers is changing the desktop wallpaper images into animated images.

2. AutoIt variant

The characteristics of this virus is made using a scripting automation program. What if the compiled into an executable file, which is also on-pack with UPX. And nearly 90% AutoIt virus variants and all we have, using icons like folders in disguise. The virus is also usually will create an autorun.inf file on a disk drive when you strike or flash drives.

3. Malingsi

The virus was fat with the size of 705,312 bytes was created using Visual Basic in-pack using PECompact. It seems this virus is intended to attack other viruses, can be seen from the message in your body. These viruses multiply and spread using mIRC intermediary, which acts as a bot.

4. Recycler variant

Which is characteristic of this virus is how it spread technique. Of all the variants that we have, the way he did is the same, that is disguised like Recycle Bin. For example while it attacks flash disk. In the flash disk there will be a victim with a Recycler folder that contains folders using alpha numeric names such as “S-1-5-21-1482476501-1644491937-682003330-1013″ with a icon similar to the Recycle Bin icon. If this folder is clicked or accessed from the Explorer, the file will not appear viruses. To see it, you can go to the command prompt with the command “dir / a”.

5. Fdshield

Viruses are created using Delphi language uses the icon that resembles the Internet Explorer. Has a file size of 553,472 bytes, with no on-pack. One thing is obvious from these viruses is the name used when spread, which reads “17 + + & Secret Women Sexs artis Indonesia (foto2_kamera tersembunyi_liputan). Exe”. For users who have not the heart – heart, will think the file is a HTML file. If you look at the directory C: \ Windows \ System32, will find a master file with the name “rundl32.exe”. Do not be fooled again! That was not part of the Windows files, but it was a virus file. Note the letter “L” is just one. And now look at the Task Schedule, there is a new Job with the name “Windows FD Shield” which will execute the virus file at a time when he had set.

6. Purwo variant

Another new variant, Purwo.C, was created using Visual Basic, with the body size of about 56KB, pure in-pack. This virus uses a Word document icon similar to defraud MsOffice’s victim. When it infects creates a folder with the name “Purwokerto Under Cover” is given the hidden attribute, and contains a file named “KoruptorPurwokerto.exe” on each drive that he had found. In the folder C: \ Windows \ System32 \ system also windowss.exe files, and in C: \ Windows \ javaa \ service.exe. At certain times it will show a black screen that contains the text message from the manufacturer. And be careful, this virus will delete some files that he’s met you.

7. Formalin

Icons used by this virus resembles like a folder, and he created using Visual Basic. In Formalin.D, the file size of 18,432 bytes, with on-pack conditions using UPX. This virus creates a folder “disguise” with names such as leaks about the UAN and UAS, My Completed Downloads, Wallpaper Picture, Crack Program, Jgn open!, Nitip Data (jgn removed), and so forth. At the infected computer, the Internet Explorer caption will be changed to “Your computer has been infected the virus Formalin”. He also tried to disable “safe-mode” by deleting a few registry-related. And the properties of the virus file, in the description of version information will be written as “Kasian DCH loe”.

8. Raider.vbs variant

This VBScript virus type virus if the file is opened with Notepad, not a lot of strings that can be read because of the encrypted condition. This has become a habit in each variant. Typically, the Registry, it will give recognition to create a new key in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE with the same name as the name of the computer name, the contents of a string value as a virus, Raider, and the date of the first computer infected.

8. Autorunme variant

Viruses are not the production of this pack of local programmers using PECompact. He does not have an icon, just use the default icon from the Windows applications. When infected, he tried to instill the parent file in the directory C: \ Windows \ System with names and msvc32s.exe with hidden and system attributes, and create new autorun in registry with the name “Windows

It’s the best anti-virus artefact for communicable bacilli in downloaded files and E-mail. Norton AntiVirus is additionally added big-ticket than McAfee VirusScan although not by much, and the added abilities of Norton can calmly accomplish up the difference.

For many of my friends, leaving their computer back home after buying airline tickets, is the same thing as if they would cut off their right arm. It seems impossible to live without it. Good news that the progress in technology allows easy transportation of laptops with minimum stress.

Below I offer a list of computer travel tips to simplify technical problems that could happen during your travels. Most of them were learned the hard way: computer crashes, nasty viruses, forgotten passwords and so on.

Things you must have:

Antivirus and firewall. Many people forget to install antivirus on their laptops. Bad mistake. Well, don’t, ’cause a virus is always a virus, even if you get it on a plane or in a hotel.

International adapter plugs set. It’s important to purchase a set of frequently used electric adapter plugs, if you travel quite often.

Software. Don’t use the software different from what you have at your office or at home. And don’t forget to test any new software before your travel. You don’t want to call to technical support on the road.

Necessary passwords list. If you have long and complicated passwords that are really hard to figure out in case of forgetting them, save them on your computer. Don’t carry printed or written lists – you can lose them.

Technical support contact numbers. Save phone numbers of companies you may be needed to be supported by, bookmark websites for any surfing during your journey.

Backup depot. Take CD’s, DVD’s or flash drives to back up files on the road. You’ll still have your data if your laptop crashes.

Document maintenance. Don’t forget to copy any important files to your home computer, when you return.
